Residential Electrical Services We Offer

Our residential electrician’s service homes throughout the Sydney region and can provide installs & repairs to the following:

Switchboard Upgrades

Your switchboard is the crucial ingredient to supplying power to your property. It will house safety switches to protect circuits, network fuse for overload and short circuit protection, and the supply authorities meters for reading your energy consumption. By law, all newly installed switchboards must have RCBOs {safety switch} installed for each circuit, and rental properties must have at l east 2 RCDs in place for protection against electric shock.

Power Outlets

The most crucial outlet in the home today; without it, how could we charge our phones, watch movies, prepare food and even blow dry our hair. With technology increasing and our demand for power-outlets is also growing, the outlets adjust to today’s technology. The USB power outlet is tech-savvy and decreases the use of plug-in adaptors for charging phones and tablets through the USB lead. At km.electric, we use top quality brands such as Clipsal Iconic, Saturn, and Saturn Zen; we also use leading brands such as Le grand, and HPM.

LED Downlights

The most used lighting source for homes today and provides improved light quality while also saving you dollars on your energy bills. The downlight is recessed into the ceiling and plugged into a plug base {socket}, and is easily changed over if the downlight breaks down. Some homes nowadays still have the old halogen globes installed, and the heat produced by this type of globe can reach 200c. With low energy costs & maintenance-free, we always recommend our customers to change from halogen to LED.

Ceiling Fans

What better way to cool down during the summer months, and not only will ceiling fans cool you down, they will also keep you warm if you have heat to circulate in the room. Today ceiling fans are powered by DC voltage, meaning more energy efficient and less noise when the blades spin. So why not add decor to your ceiling space with a stylish ceiling fan while keeping that unwanted away. At Km.electric, we provide ceiling fan installations plus fan recommendations.

Pendant Lighting

One of the easiest ways to improve your home’s look is by installing pendant lights. This lighting type will look fantastic and transform space in your living room, dining room, bedroom, and over the stairwell. There are many types of pendant lights, drum, linear, mini, and multiple, just to name a few, but be sure to use a licensed electrician for installing any pendant lighting. Contact us here at Km.electric for all pendant lighting inquiries.

Outdoor Lighting

When it comes to outdoor lighting, you will need to consider safety, the color temperature of light, areas for entertainment, and premises security. We always recommend a softer temperature of light; warm white is a suitable color for outdoor lighting and reduces any glare when entertaining in the back yard. Footpaths are areas that will need lighting, ensures no trips or fall while people walk at night. Install security lighting to deter unwanted guests while giving you and your family a sense of safety your home needs.

Garden Lighting

Projects in the garden should always begin with a plan. Trees, sculptures, water features, and walk paths can all be illuminated and will capture people’s attention at your garden parties. Types of garden lighting would include spike lights, bollards, LED strips, and up-lighters, and we recommend using 24v to power garden lighting. A heavy-duty cable will need to be used to run power to your lighting, and the voltage drop will need to be measured at the end of the installation; using a larger cable diameter will reduce voltage drop dependant on the load.

Security Lighting

Everyone likes to feel safe in their own home, which is why the demand for security lighting installation has become a thing of the market of late. Before making that call to your electrician, why not take a walk around your property and identify areas that are in darkness and need of light. Security lighting has many forms of control; the motion sensor is a popular choice of consumers; we also have dusk to dawn sensors lighting to be active all night and deactivated at dawn. We at Km.electric also have a range of smart security lighting solutions, offering the ring spotlight cam as one.

Smoke Alarms

The building codes say smoke alarms need to be installed on each level of every home and a minimum of two for a single-story home, depending on size. Ideally, smoke alarms will be installed between bedrooms and living areas; and kept away from the kitchen and bathroom. Smoke alarms must be hard-wired and interconnected between each one. Back-up batteries must also be fitted to every smoke alarm and will need to be installed by a licensed electrician. At Km.electric, we supply and install smoke alarms for all property types.

Security Cameras

Is the leading security system in today’s market, and our CCTV systems cater to all residential homes, small businesses, and large high-end commercial properties. Reduced vandalism & theft, shoplifting, evidence for a court of law, and recordings of health & safety mishaps at work can all be significant benefits of security camera systems. Our camera systems come fully equipped with remote viewing for mobile phones, infrared night vision, zoom-in capabilities, a built-in microphone for audio, 24 hours & motion detection recording & much more.

Intercom Systems

Works for all residential homes, commercial buildings, offices, and apartment blocks. So allow yourself to see who is at your front door before you let them in, as some voices can sound unfamiliar. If your intercom happens to be IP {internet protocol}, we can connect your mobile phone through the intercom system. Having this feature will allow you to communicate to whoever is at your front door; you can also open gates or doors with the click of a button from your mobile phone. Intercom systems can also be a deterrent to potential thieves who think they are being recorded

Common Electrical Problems In Your Home

Can’t reset your safety switch or circuit breaker?

Your switchboard is the crucial ingredient to supplying power to your property. It will house safety switches to protect circuits, network fuse for overload and short circuit protection, and the supply authorities meters for reading your energy consumption. By law, all newly installed switchboards must have RCBOs {safety switch} installed for each circuit, and rental properties must have at l east 2 RCDs in place for protection against electric shock.

Faulty wiring

Damaged cabling in the roof space or underground can play havoc with your safety switches. Cable damage can become faulty over time, insulation becomes brittle on some cables, and the safety switch will detect these leakage currents and immediately cut the power supply to reduce the risk of fire damage. The black rubber cable had been extensively used from the 1940s to the 1960s. The cotton cable was mechanically protected by conduit, deteriorated over time, and easily crumbled in one’s hand, potentially causing electrocution. So before you hammer that nail or turn that screw, always check what’s below and above because just maybe you are in direct line with a live cable.

Defective safety switches

Yes, it happens; safety switches deteriorate from time to time, causing nuisance tripping or no tripping at all. A safety switch that becomes faulty could have incoming power but will read zero volts on the outgoing side, and the safety switch will remain in the ON position. When the safety switch refuses to stay on the ON position without a fault, the safety switch is another cause for a defective switch. The safety switches are easily changed out and can be done within a timeframe of 15 – 20 minutes, but the switchboard will need to be isolated from the power supply while work is being carried out.

Overloaded Circuits

A safety switch can only handle so much current. When it reaches its current rating, it will likely trip, causing power failure for that particular circuit. Why might this happen? The safety switch protects the cable, and having a few too many appliances on that specific circuit will call the safety switch into action. So exceeding the current rating of the safety switch will trip the circuit, and without it, the overloaded circuit would overheat, causing cables to burn, resulting in fire damage.
